Theme: "Mental Health is a Universal Human Right"
- The World Mental Health Day is observed on 10 October every year to create an awareness about mental illness and to start discussion on mental health issues.
- It is a platform to provide safe space and comfort to those who suffer from it so that they can openly accept and address such issues.
- The World Federation of Mental Health (WFMH) formally created the day in 1992 by the then Deputy Secretary-General Richard Hunter.
- The day was first observed in 1994 with the theme "Improving the Quality of Mental Health Services Throughout the World".
Initiatives taken by India to Promote Mental Health:-
- National Mental Health Program:
- being implemented since 1982 to address mental disorders.
- Mental HealthCare Act 2017:
- came into force in 2018 to meet requirements of United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
- Mandodarpan:
- launched under Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.
- Mental Health and Normalcy Augmentation System (MANAS):
- a mobile app launched in 2021 tp promote mental wellbeing across different age groups.
