Indian Air Force Day

 

  • The Indian Airforce Day is celebrated on 8th October every year to commemorate the formation of Indian Air Force (IAF).
  • It was officially established on 8 October, 1932.
  • In 1945, during the World War II, it proved its professional efficiency and achievements, hence was awarded with prefix "Royal" and it became Royal Indian Air Force (RIAF).
  • Later, in 1950, the prefix was dropped and it remained Indian Air Force.
  • The theme for this year is "IAF - Airpower Beyond Boundaries".
  • The Motto of IAF is "Touch the sky with glory".
  • Celebrating its 91st anniversary, IAF unveiled its new ensign this year, at the annual Air Force Day parade in Prayagraj.
  • The new ensign prominently displays the IAF crest in the top right corner, along with the national flag in the left canton and the IAF tricolor roundel in the lower right.

  • The day is marked with the organization of grand parade and celebrations over the nations along with honouring the IAF personnel for their dedication and professionalism.
