- The Border Roads Organization (BRO) will construct the world's highest fighter airfield in the Nyoma region of Ladakh.
- The foundation stone of the project will be laid by the Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh from Devak Bridge.
- The BRO aims to enhance India's infrastructure along the 3,488 km stretch of Line of Actual Control (LAC) to surpass China in infrastructure development along the LAC.
- In the last two-three years, 295 projects have been completed worth Rs 1100 crore in this sector.
- The budget for border infrastructure development has increased significantly in past few years.
- In 2008, the budget used to be approx. Rs 3,000 crore, increasing up to Rs 5,000-6,000 crore in 2017, Rs 8,000 crore in 2019, and around Rs 12,340 crore last year.
Nyoma Region:
- Nyoma is a prominent village situated in the southern region of Ladakh.
- It hosts an Indian Air Force Base within the Leh district.
- It's elevation reaches up to 4,180 meters above sea level making it one of the highest-altitude location in the region.
- Nyoma is a home to an Advanced Landing Ground (ALG) of Indian Airforce that was built in 1962 but remained unutilized. It was reactivated in 2009 when An-32 landed in this airfield.
