  • MVD, earlier known as Marburg Hemorrhagic fever, Marburg like Ebola, is a filovirus and both disease are clinically similar.
  • Bats are considered the natural host of MVD, first detected in 1967 in Marburg and Frankfurt in Germany.
  • A member of the family Filoviridae and genus Marburgvirus, is a zoonotic virus that is initially transmitted from animals to humans. Both Marburg virus and Ebola virus belong to the Filoviridae family of viruses and have the capacity to cause outbreaks with high fatality rates.   • MVD are commonly characterized by the sudden onset of fever, chills, headache, sore throat, weakness, and muscle aches. Bloody or nonbloody diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting may begin three days after the onset of illness.
